“If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.”

Take a look around your company, team or department and ask yourself, “Am I among people who are smarter than me, or am I the smartest?” If the answer to that question is the latter, then you’re in the wrong room or on the wrong team.

As a child I liked to play football. The teams I was part of at the time were decisive for my personal growth. I noticed that as I played in better performing teams, I also got better at performing my personal role within the team. This ultimately took me to a higher level.

In my opinion this works the same within organizations. In my position as research consultant within Volta I also try to guide this philosophy by opening myself as much as possible to new knowledge and skills. As a wise man said a long time ago, “I only know that I know nothing.” Every now and then it can be very helpful to say this to yourself. In this way you guarantee a critical self-image, a good starting point for personal development with the ultimate goal of being of service to Volta’s customers and relations as much as possible.
In addition, from my point of view as an organizational scientist, I find it interesting that each assignment is slightly different from the previous one. I find the complexity that this entails interesting to unravel and simplify through my analytical, accurate and disciplined approach.
